Late last week, Ben van der Kooi arrested as a suspect arson in a Surinam mosque in Rotterdam. Who Van der Koois activities within the extreme right circuit has somewhat, This hardly comes as a surprise. Friend and foe would know that this was a predictable scenario. The question is whether she is to blame.
Last 11 June, the National Alliance organized a demonstration against the construction of the Surinamese Shaan-e-Islam mosque in Rotterdam South. The mosque was looking for a new space, because the existing building in the Aleidisstraat was too old and become too small. The National Alliance hold these plans to organize a demonstration against this and other mosques.

After the fire was extinguished, noted that the fire there was arson and police began an investigation.
In many places, the link was made to the demonstration of the National Alliance a few days earlier, much to the displeasure of the party. Chairman Jan Teijn reacted furiously, the allegations mentioned tasteless and threatened to take direct action against anyone who falsely accused the party. Furthermore, he stated: "Of course we choose a political party is not a violent solution to the problems within Islam. Our way is the way of the ballot box. Within the entire right-wing landscape was then reacted to this striking attack. In general, the fire was labeled as positive event and the (unknown) perpetrator got all the accolades. The camera images were shown on the television program "Investigation Requested", which became clear to many people that Ben van der Kooi was probably involved in this attack. I am not saying that he did it, but not that he has not done.” A few days after this broadcast Ben van der Kooi was therefore arrested.
Who is Ben van der Kooi?
In May 2003 we wrote an article about the activities of Ben van der Kooi. Briefly came that article means that Van der Kooi is a major right-wing activist, of all kinds of parties was a member (LPF to VB and OSL to Stormfront Netherlands). He walked consistent meetings and actions of those organizations sometimes was also an important networker between the various organizations. Broadly speaking, it is still the story of Van der Kooi. He feels involved in all organizations he considered right enough (#1): Liveable Rotterdam, Outpost, New Right, but especially the National Alliance.
For the latter party, he has always been very active since its founding. The National Alliance is actually a spin-off of the - now defunct - NNP. The current president of the Alliance, Jan Teijn, werd in 2002 elected councilor for the NNP part in the district of Rotterdam Feyenoord. Except Teijn was Florens van der Kooi elected to the district council, the brother of Ben van der Kooi.
After a year in the council Teijn Jan was also in charge of the NNP circuit assigned Rotterdam. Lang was not that good. After a month he received fierce quarrel with Florens van der Kooi on the financing of the Rotterdam circle. Teijn sold nazi music CDs, in their own words to finance department. After his arrest Teijn chairman stated that Ben van der Kooi was a "known", but no member of the party. That is to say the least implausible: Teijn and Van der Kooi worked so closely, that they were demonstrably more than "acquaintances". Whether Van der Kooi was a member of the National Alliance of course not be answered with certainty. But it is a fact that Van der Kooi was also present at meetings, who were party members only visible.
As stated earlier, Van der Kooi also been active in other parties and organizations, including the New Right of Michiel Smit, although not in relation to his standing activities for the National Alliance. Besides his activities in the streets and halls, Van der Kooi is also an extremely avid participant of all sorts of far-right internet forums. It concerns both forums that are linked to extreme right-wing parties (Nationale Alliantie, New Right, Liveable Rotterdam) as independent forums (Stormfront, Holland-Hardcore, Polinco, forums of various groups Fortuynist). Due to the large volume of messages he left on all the forums, it is impracticable, to paint a complete picture of the scope of this article all that he has written. But there is obviously something to say about, particularly his posts in arson in mosques. Briefly,: The fascination Ben van der Kooi regarding burning mosques exhibits is remarkably unhealthy. If there is any sign of the country of such arson, Van der Kooi is frequently the first to report that with a lot of bells and whistles on the Internet. Mosques in his terminology "Kots Chain" or "Hate Cabins" and the perpetrators "resistance fighters" or "freedom fighters".

The National Alliance
The predominantly positive reactions to the arson and the negative reactions to the arrest of Ben van der Kooi from the extreme right field of interest. But even more interesting is the question of what the National Alliance as a decision of the will and one another. The answer to that question has two faces, like the National Alliance itself: the official position and the views to and from its own rank. Outwardly, the Alliance presents itself as a right-wing democratic party, with strong views on migrants, which is far from violence, Racism and anti-democratic sentiments. To and through their own supporters, however, communicated an entirely different message. Briefly, in speeches, forum postings and other groceries proclaims a clear message: The Alliance is a strong racist and anti-Semitic party, Worship where Hitler and Third Reich sentiments are the order of the day. To achieve political success is not condemned violence against political opponents and ethnic minorities, but openly welcomed. Attacks against mosques are characterized as acts of resistance against an occupier.
Also in this case we see this mix, but with an extra dimension: Chairman Jan Teijn hit in the days surrounding the arrest of Ben van der Kooi visible panic, since the party and he does sit very close to the fire. Significant in this context is a message from Jan Teijn at the party forum: "The person has done this sort of thing is not NA. member.

"The official Alliance statements are full of distantiëringen. In a first reaction was that the Alliance rejects all forms of violence and that they will take steps against accusations, who associate the party with the arson (#2). After the arrest of Ben van der Kooi Alliance released a press statement outside, where the responsibility of the party central: There is not called by the Alliance to violence, Van der Kooi was not a member, but a "known" and also active for parties like the New Right and Liveable Rotterdam.
But the responses from the grassroots. At the party forum were to read the necessary responses. Kortom, in the circles of the National Alliance to know the distantiëringen party leader Teijn no undivided support(#5). Indeed, to by Teijns in comparison to the Hofstad reasoning: it's a good question to what extent the National Alliance is a network, where these arson as functional agent is seen in the political struggle. The continuing racist character, the rave with and encourage violent actions by party and framework and the involvement of party members and activists to violence are at least indications that the National Alliance is holding another agenda after she suggested on the outside.
